Conflict Resolution in the Workplace

People in conflict

Conflicts between people at work often go unresolved for long periods of time. They divert a disproportionate amount of managerial time and effort and often require the involvement of an HR specialist. Mediation is sometimes useful but not always successful over the medium to long term.

The 'ripple effect' of a conflict can spread throughout the working environment, leading to difficulties in communication and an awkward atmosphere of negativity. Conflicts cause harm to business, service and people. They often drag on and sometimes lead to formal action and litigation.

I have a successful track record in quickly resolving conflicts. An external observer, solely concerned with conflict resolution with no involvement in the 'politics' of the organisation can save much energy, time and, above all, money. The sooner a conflict is resolved, the quicker everyone returns to normal work.

My conflict resolution service

My preferred approach includes:

  • Interviews with everyone concerned with the conflict
  • Reviews of any previous conflicts involving any of the parties concerned
  • Consultation with the affected parties about the possible outcomes of the conflict
  • Preparation of a report with proposals for resolution if required
  • Help to implement the result

You will find some useful information on conflict resolution techniques and strategies in my conflict resolution Case Study.
